The CITIZEN High accuracy watches with light-powered Eco-Drive

New models with hand-dyed indigo washi paper dials

CITIZEN’s The CITIZEN models provide superior precision and high quality, symbolizing the company’s never-ending pursuit of the essence of the watch. Two new models will be released from this collection featuring hand-dyed indigo washi paper on the dial. The first is equipped with the world’s most accurate light-powered movement – the Caliber 0100 Eco-Drive movement – with annual accuracy of ±1 second. The second features a high-accuracy light-powered Eco-Drive movement with annual accuracy of ±5 seconds.

Washi paper dials were first featured on The CITIZEN watches in 2017, giving our Eco-Drive models a new kind of visual appeal. The delicate Japanese paper allows light to reach the Eco-Drive movement while also providing a beautiful texture in an appealing range of colors. The dials of the newest additions to this collection feature Tosa washi paper, hand-dyed using traditional Japanese methods to achieve a deep, clear indigo color also known as “Japan blue.” This is the first time that CITIZEN has used hand-dyed indigo washi paper on its watch dials.

The Caliber 0100 model (AQ6110-10L) is powered by Eco-Drive and has an annual accuracy of ±1 second. One of the most impressive features is the perfect alignment of the second hand and indices when viewed from the front. Each detail of the design is a reminder of the groundbreaking technology inside, and the case lugs are inspired by the crystal that gives the movement its incredible high accuracy. The case is made of Super Titanium^TM*2 finished with CITIZEN’s proprietary surface hardening technology Duratect^*3 Platinum that provides a bright metallic hue. The crocodile leather strap, certified by the Leather Working Group (LWG)^*4, gives the watch a sophisticated, understated look while the transparent case back reveals the Caliber 0100 movement with its ruthenium plating and distinctive striped finish. The high-accuracy Eco-Drive model (AQ4091-56M) has annual accuracy of ±5 seconds, as well as a case and band made of Super Titanium^TM.

The eagle mark on the dial and crown symbolizes the twin ideals of The CITIZEN – foresight and dedication to the pursuit of ideals as well as the enduring connection between watch and wearer.

Product Features

· Hand-dyed indigo washi paper dial
The dial features Tosa washi paper hand-dyed using traditional Japanese methods. Kamiita-cho in Tokushima Prefecture is famous for its Awa indigo dye, and the Tosa washi paper on the dial is hand-dyed by Watanabe’s in Tokushima – an indigo farm and dyehouse that carries out the entire hand-dyeing process including cultivating indigo plants, making the dye, dyeing the paper, and finishing the final product. The beautiful, deep blue indigo dial is dyed using all-natural materials.

Eagle marks – the symbol of The CITIZEN – can be found on the dial, crown, and the case back. Eagles have incredible eyesight – they can clearly spot their prey from a distance of 1,000 meters or more. The eagle symbolizes foresight, the ability to anticipate the future and act accordingly. Eagles have also formed bonds with humans since ancient times. The eagle mark symbolizes the twin ideals of The CITIZEN – foresight and dedication to the pursuit of ideals as well as the enduring connection between watch and wearer.
