In modern fashion, it is not uncommon to see women wearing men’s clothing and accessories. In fact, it has become one of the ongoing fashion trends up to this date. We see women flaunting around, wearing their partner’s shirts or coats. The same trend can be seen with watches. As women have the freedom to choose which watch to wear, why do some women prefer wearing men’s watches?

 

It is more than just a matter of having the watch laying around in your bedroom. The reasons can be divided into two parts;  bold fashion and more features.

 

Though the traditional dainty watches may still be preferred by most women for formal events, men’s watches have been rising in the markets for ladies as a form of casual wear.

 

Majority of modern women’s watches follow the same basic construction and design — small pearl or diamond-encrusted faces with thin straps that make use of more feminine colors such as nude and salmon — when the market for women’s watches is not entirely inclined to these designs. Simply put, there are women out there whose preferences lie beyond the conventional feminine aesthetics.

 

Furthermore, men’s watches provide a simpler yet elegant look that some women may be looking for. Wearing men’s watches helps in shifting a woman’s image to that of a stronger and daring one. The bold design of men’s watches balances well with more feminine accessories such as bracelets and rings. Additionally, men’s watches tend to hang loose from a woman’s wrist. This look follows well into the modern fashion trend that it can become a stand-alone piece of jewelry.

 

The larger face and numerals of men’s timepieces make time-telling easier.

Legibility has also become another major reason why women prefer men’s watches, due to the construction of most women’s watches where smaller faces and even smaller numeric sets are the standard features. Some women’s watches have been put out in the market as a form of jewelry— mainly promoted for their bracelet-like designs. The larger face and numerals of men’s timepieces make time-telling easier. Some men’s watches also come with features that may not be seen in most women’s watches. This may be water resistance, glow-in-the-dark numerals, and dual timezones.

 

So why wear men’s watches?

Well, why not? While women’s watches tend to be smaller, daintier, with feminine aesthetics that are made to either pair with other accessories or stand in itself as a jewelry, fans of men’s watches appreciate their simpler construction, sturdiness and readability.

Bottom line: there is no single feature that makes a watch exclusive for men or women alone. It is simply a matter of which watch align with your preference the most, nothing more and nothing less.
